3D print pricing calculator: selling price from cost and margin

Selling 3D prints directly or on a marketplace? Start from the part's full cost, choose the margin you want on the selling price and, if needed, the percentage fees taken by the platform: the result is the pre-tax price to list.

No sign-up. Your values stay in your browser: they are never sent or stored.

Your inputs

Default values are editable examples. Estimates only: check against your printer or slicer.

Enter amounts in your own currency: the result uses the same currency, with no conversion.

Worked example

Example: a part that costs you 8 in total, sold with a 30% margin on a platform that takes 10% of the price, should be listed at 13.33 before tax. Of that price, about 1.33 goes to fees and 4.00 stays as margin.

How it is calculated

Price = cost ÷ (1 − (margin + fees) ÷ 100). Margin and fees are shares of the selling price, not of the cost: a 50% margin is not the same as adding 50% to the cost.

Limits and checks

Fixed per-order fees (listing, transaction, packaging) belong in the cost before you calculate. The result excludes sales tax or VAT.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between margin and markup?
Margin is a share of the selling price; markup is added to the cost. Adding 50% to a cost of 8 gives 12, which is only a 33% margin. For a 50% margin you need to sell at 16.
What goes into the full cost?
Material, electricity, a share of printer depreciation, preparation and finishing time, a failed-print allowance and packaging. The 3D print cost calculator already covers filament and electricity.
How do I account for marketplace fees?
Enter in “fees” the total commissions charged as a percentage of the price (sale, payment processing). Fixed per-order fees belong in the cost. Fee schedules change, so check your platform's current rates.
Which currency does it use?
Whichever currency you type the cost in. No conversion is applied: the price comes out in the same currency.
Are my values saved?
No. The calculation runs in your browser: the numbers you type are never sent or stored. As on the rest of the site, page visits and button clicks are measured, without the calculator values.
